Presenting Charlie Brear’s #FridayBridE Sarah
An unfortgettable countryside wedding brought about surprise, laughter, and love to all of Sarah & Tim's friends and family. This relaxed April wedding took place in Nottinghamshire, where the most unlikely wedding guests made a grand entrance! Our beautiful bride, Sarah, describes sticking to what felt right, as the most important part of planning her wedding to Tim.
Sarah & Tim’s breathtaking wedding pictures were captured by Matt Horan.
Please can you describe the style of your wedding for us.
Relaxed, informal, handmade, countryside
Which dress did you choose?
Calantha Top & Livonia Skirt
What was your best experience when trying on dresses?
My dress took a long, long while to find but my final visit was to Allie at Alexandra Anne Bridal on the Chatsworth Estate. Allie and her stunning shop stand out an absolute mile, she greeted me like an old friend and made me feel at ease from the very beginning, nothing was too much trouble, the experience was what dreams are made of - I loved every minute and finding my beautiful two-piece made it extra special; the top and skirt were actually from different collections but I just loved them together.
When and where did your husband propose to you? Did he have a ring ready?
My partner proposed to me at the top of a mountain in France in September 2015
What would your advice be to other brides about shopping for a wedding dress?
Take your time and be open minded. Try not to go with any pre-conceived ideas as there are so many amazing and different styles out there, don't limit yourself. My sister who works in fashion gave me some great advice and told me start by trying on different styles (i.e a fuller skirt, a shorter dress, strapless, fishtail, slinky, floaty) and use this as a way to eliminating what you don't like and then focus on the detail. Great advice! Just enjoy it, it's so fun!
How did you feel after you had ordered your dress?
So excited and like a weight had been lifted.
Did you struggle finding the right lingerie that worked with your dress, if so would you recommend anything for future brides?
Yes it was a bit tricky as my top was silk and had a Grecian style neck so I had to wear something strapless that also wouldn't have any seams
What Traditions did you follow? Something borrowed, something blue or not seeing each other until the ceremony for example.
We had a traditional church wedding ceremony but other than that we went a bit off piste. We didn't do the matching men's suits or table plans or long top table. We had curry for our evening food, basically we got to the point where we realised we wanted a day that totally reflected us and so we just did what felt righ
Who did your hair & make-up and how did you find them?
My usual hairdresser (Lucy from 'Lucille's Locks') did my hair as I had always known I would want- she is fabulous and was very patient working with me to get it right. She's got such great style and taste herself I knew I would always want her to be part of my big day
Wendy who did my make up was a recommendation from an old school friend via one of my close friends, I knew she would always want natural, low key make up so knew she would do a great job.
Where and when did you get married?
15th April 2017, Lambley Church, Nottinghamshire and for the reception Thurgarton Village Hall, Nottinghamshire
What was the funniest moment of the day?
Seeing everyone's reactions when we led them out to see the Alpaca's, the photographer captured some fantastic faces
Who took your fabulous wedding pictures?
Matt Horan was our photographer and he was just brilliant! He made us feel so relaxed and captured some magical moments, by the end of the night he became like one of our guests and made everyone feel really at ease.
How did you feel walking down the aisle?
Really excited, a little nervous but just great knowing the day was finally here. It was so special seeing all the beaming faces of our friends and family in one place and then my gorgeous husband to be waiting for me at the alter
If you could do it all again what would you do differently?
I do wish we'd been able to have a band for the evening to provide another fun element to our day but we just couldn't find anything that suited us and for such a small venue it may have been a bit of a squeeze other than that everything else was just what we had hoped for.
Did you find organising your wedding an easy process? What parts were easy, what parts were trickier?
We did find it hard going, at first as we were trying to do things to please everyone else and perhaps tick boxes we thought were expected so we did go slightly around the houses before we took a step back and really stripped it back to what was important to us.
What will you do with your dress now?
I want to keep and hopefully at some point we might have some sort of blessing where I can wear it again- it is just too beautiful to only wear once. I had also thought about wearing the top again for special occasions.
What are you and your husband's best memories of the day?
Seeing each other in church for the first time was a really special moment and we both got a bit emotional, also having the car journey together was the perfect time to take in the fact that we had just got married, it all seemed a bit surreal. Arriving at the venue and having a quiet moment together to take in the decorations and everything we had achieved was really memorable, seeing what we had been working towards for two years was so special. All of it was just amazing and I just wish we could rewind and have the day all over again!
