Presenting Charlie Brear’s #FridayBridE Caroline
A modern, winter wedding in the country side of Ireland! This weeks Friday Bride stunned in our unique Calla Top and Canya skirt. Keep reading to find out about Caroline’s tips to have a relaxing wedding planning experience.
1. Please describe the style of your wedding
A classic winter wedding in the countryside, but with a modern twist!
2. When and where did your partner propose to you?
October 2016 up on the Hill of Tara in County Meath! It was all very unexpected, as we were just on a very casual stroll, and I did get a little suspicious as Conor had gone a little quiet and wanted to show me the trees and fields around the area?!...Only afterwards I realised that it was that he was actually trying to find a quiet spot to go down on one knee!
3. Which dress did you choose and why? And where did you buy it from?
I immediately fell in love with the Calla Top and Canya Skirt. I really didn't even know this wonderful two piece existed! It' so cliche but I really had another style in my mind when I started the wedding dress shopping experience. I just thought " why not" I'll try this masterpiece on! I never felt as glowing and happy at that moment; I instantly knew it was the one!! It was so different, classic and modern. I felt like me! I bought it from the fabulous bridal boutique The Suite on Drury St. in Dublin 2.
4. How was your experience shopping for your wedding dress? ( was it easy, was it memorable, was it fun?, was the decision tough?)
It was so memorable, the lovely Caragh in The Suite was so helpful and really never pushed me into any decision. It was so much fun meeting my two bridesmaids and Mom for our morning coffee and then heading in to try on the dress! Treasure these moments, as I would love to do it all again!!
5. What would your advice be to other brides shopping for a wedding dress?
Enjoy every second, try on as many dresses as you can, and try on different dresses that you would probably have said " No" too. It's a wonderful experience. Also bring a heel with you too that you would probably wear on the day, and the right underwear. When you go to your first dress shop it is pretty overwhelming, so take your time and remember you will definitely feel when "it's the one" !
6.How did you feel after you had ordered your dress?
Absolutely fantastic!!! We went for prosecco afterwards!!!
7. What shoes did you wear?
Velvet block heel from Vince Camuto. I found them the most comfortable and suited my dress. They had a slight off white/blush sheen to them.
8. Did you struggle finding the right lingerie that worked with your dress, if so would you recommend anything for future brides?
I actually did a bit! I ventured to London to find the right bra! As the top of the dress was a little see through and cropped, I wanted a bralette that didn't have the back of a normal bra, and that was longer around the bust, and didn't really look like a bra. I found all my bridal underwear in Intimissimi on Oxford Street.!
9. Who did your hair & make-up and how did you find them?
Dean Monks & Paula Callan . . Paula was just amazing, she knew exactly what I wanted and I knew I had no worries when I met her. She knew I wanted a natural look. Originally I wanted my hair in a bun, but because I have really thick hair Dean suggested a low ponytail. It really worked well with the dress. Having such a great duo there the morning of the wedding was so reassuring, as I knew the bridal party was going to look the best possible.
10.Where and when did you get married?
Culmullen Church , Co. Meath, Ireland- 6th of January 2018
11. How did you feel walking down the aisle?
So excited!!!! I was a little nervous about 6 months before, but then it actually turned out to be one of the best parts for me that day!! Everyone was looking on reassuringly and it was just so relaxed and fun! Don't be nervous at all, it will be one of the top moments for you, just take it all in!
12. What traditions did you follow? (Think something old, new, borrowed and blue.)
haha, I actually sort of forgot about the old , borrowed and new! ..I just thought relax and enjoy the day!
13. Did your wedding have any quirky or unusual features?
Yes, as it was my birthday on our wedding day too, my bridesmaids organised a cake for me that morning! Plus myself and Conor (the hubbie) actually arranged a "first look" with our photographer before the church, where we got to see each other beforehand. It was so magical and really put any pre wedding nerves away, it was such a laugh! The whole bridal party were able to share a little glass of bubbles before the church!
14. What was the funniest moment of the day?
Driving ourselves in our Defender from the Church to Clonabreany House Venue! Such a laugh beeping at everyone passing us on the road, and getting the tollman to take a photo of us!
15. Who took your wedding pictures?
Julie Cummins http://juliecummins.com/
16. If you could do it all again, would you do anything differently?
No absolutely nothing ! I loved the way we saw each other beforehand, it was just such a special private moment for us. Music, Venue, Food , Guests everything just exceeded our expectations. We loved every moment.
17. Did you find organising your wedding an easy process? What parts were easy and what parts were trickier?
Really relaxed! The only part that was a little stressful was sorting out the accommodation onsite, as we had to block book rooms as it was a private venue. A few guests were unable to come last minute, but we really decided to take it in our stride and not get stressed. We both realised we would never be doing this again!
18.What will you do with your dress now?
I'm definitely going to wear the top again with black cigarette style trousers. As we are going on honeymoon in April in California, I really want to bring my skirt part of my dress along to wear when we are visiting Las Vegas! Even renew our vows in a "drive thru" wedding chapel! It’s such a beautiful dress I want to wear it again!
19.What are you and your husband's best memories of the day?
The first moment we saw each other, walking out of the church after the ceremony, driving to the venue and looking at each other during the speeches. It was just magical.
Please list 5 great pieces of advice you would pass on to other brides to be
Don't be one bit nervous during the planning stages, just take your time and enjoy it all! Don't read online blogs too much either, having too many opinions and ideas can make you more stressed and lose what you and your husband both want. Everything will work out on the day!! Every time you have to do something wedding related, like meeting the photographer for the first time, or going bridesmaids shopping or wedding cake shopping, make it an occasion. Bring your mom, friend or sister with you, and why not have a little glass of prosecco too! Just take in every moment of the wedding day, from having breakfast that morning (if you can eat a little!), to smiling at all your friends and family walking down the aisle, to eating your wedding meal! Make sure you sip on plenty of water during the day itself, all the talking and laughing really makes you thirsty! Bring spare pairs of heels and flats, you'll need them for later on, and super comfy shoes for the next day! My feet swelled three times from all the dancing!
